Salwa Rashad

Born in Alexandria, graduated from Fine Arts painting department in1986, Salwa became interested in photography alongside with painting, participated in several workshops in Marseille and Egypt.
Participated in a group exhibition curated by Reem Hassan in Aesha Fahmy Zamalek palace in Cairo.
Salwa collaborates with the writer Alaa Khaled since 1999 in editing the none periodical publication “Amkenah” which is concerned with the poetic of the place by documenting the life and the diverse cultures of Egypt through photography and articles.
In 2009, Salwa collaborated with Alaa in a documentary project residency in Los Angeles hosted by MAK Centre for Art and Architecture, documenting through photography and interviews the lives of Arab immigrants, musicians, doctors, scientists, and architects, exploring their new life in the city and their memory of their homeland.
With Photography held exhibitions from her travels around Egypt with the theme “the Passer by” in Mashrabia gallery in Cairo And in 2015 photos from Morocco with the theme “intersections “in Behna Art space.
In 2017/2018 Salwa organized and participated with 5 female artists in a long workshop, theme based on anthropological texts. They exhibited their final art product in Alexandria and Cairo, her work included paintings with Bees Wax and photography.
In 2022 she participated in Agenda with painting in the Bibliotheca Alexandria.
2022 through” Zoom“took part in the” visual anthropology conference “in Montreal university -Canada the theme was based on Pierre Nora text “ Sites of memory” her presentation “ Tapestry of Time” was discussing through her photos, the many accumulated cultural layers in Egypt that goes back to ancient times and shaped the present culture and some social and religious ritual practices of the Egyptians.
2023 participated in a group Exhibition in “Shelter “art space/Alexandria and DEF/ Cairo, curated by Sahar Behairy theme was the Memory. And titled “Threads“.
2024 participated with a painting in the General Exhibition in El Gezira Center for Arts.
